SAMURAI WOLF
NEWLY RE-MASTERED
SAMURAI
WOLF, the lost masterpiece from one of Japan's greatest
directors has finally come to DVD. This black and white
classic was the fourth film directed by Gosha, and has some
of the most exciting action scenes ever shot. Natsuyagi Isao
plays Kiba Okaminosuke (which means 'Fangs of the Wolf'), a
powerful swordsman for hire. His job is to protect a blind
lady boss from the evil Nizaemon, a man with no conscience
who has hired his own master swordsman played by Uchida
Ryohei (THE SHADOW HUNTERS), the only man skilled
enough to kill the Wolf.
SAMURAI WOLF 2
HELLCUT
NEWLY RE-MASTERED
One of the
best, most exciting characters is back for more as Kiba
Okaminosuke (Fangs of the Wolf) finds himself involved with
a group of prisoners being transported to their executions,
a crazy woman, and danger at every turn. A fantastic sequel
in that all the elements which made the first one so good
are there, but no-thing is ever obvious. Terrific action, as
always in a Gosha film, combined with a clever story and
awesome performances from Natsuyagi Isao and Nishimura Ko,
make this one of the best films to have ever been made by
one of the greatest of all masters.
SECRET OF THE URN
NEWLY RE-MASTERED
When the Shogunate orders the
Yagyu Clan to rebuild Nikko Temple, a race to find an Urn worth
1,000,000 ryo gets underway. One of Japan's greatest legendary
swordsmen, Tange Sazen, a victim of betrayal by his own clan is
asked to help find and return it to the rightful owner, so they
can try to learn the "Secret of the Urn" and use the money to
save their clan.. if they go bankrupt the Shogun will abolish
the Yagyu and confiscate their land. Tange Sazen, the one-armed,
one-eyed swordsman of Japanese legend is played brilliantly by
the outstanding actor, NAKAMURA Kinnosuke, in one of his most
perfect roles. As usual with a film directed by the great Master
GOSHA Hideo, there are many plot twists, and turns, and of
course, plenty of powerful, bloody swordfights. This is the
definitive version of the story. A true Jidai-Geki classic!
THE E-ZINE
DEVOTED TO THE LATEST & BEST IN JAPANESE CINEMA
One
of the most important and powerful films ever to
come out of Japan, this is the story of Okada Izo
and the Tosa Clan Loyalists who set out to restore
the Emperor to power by assassinating their
political opponents during the violent period near
the end of the samurai era. With a performance for
the ages, Katsu Shintaro shines in his greatest non-Zato
Ichi role as a down on his luck swordsman who joins
the Loyalist movement in 1862, rising to fame and
fortune and then taking the ultimate fall from grace
as those in power use and dispose of him like a
rabid dog. Shouting “Heaven’s Punishment” with
each assassination the Loyalists seek to overthrow
the Shogun and turn the world upside down. With a
brand new translation and a stunning anamorphic
widescreen print, this is the ultimate edition of
one of the great masterpieces of Japanese cinema.
Startling performances from Nakadai Tatsuya,
Ishihara Yujiro, and Mishima Yukio help bring
history to life, while Katsu Shintaro shines as
“Hitokiri” (Killer), the swordsman Okada Izo!
